Earlier this week one of the teachers from the kids school set a challenge to make a Paper Bird Kite. The kids LOVED making and playing with these! Here is how we did it.
What you will need
- A4 Paper – 1 sheet for the body and different colour(s) for the beak and feather tails
- Scissors
- Hole Punch
- Glue Stick
- Staple Gun
- Sticky Eyes (or you could just use a felt tip pen to draw the eyes on)
- String/ Wool/ Twine
What To Do
Choose the colour body you want to use for your body and fold that sheet of paper in half
Then you need to fold 2 corners (on the same end) outwards, towards the crease to make the wings and staple them.
Stick the eyes on.
Cut a triangular shape of a different colour for the beak. Put glue on either side of the small section you’re going to stick inside, between the eyes.
Next you need to cut out 3 feather shapes and stick them together at the bottom, fanning them out
Once you have done that, put some glue on either side of the bottom of it and stick inbetween the paper ; the opposite end of the beak.
Then hole punch one hole near the staple on crease.
If you want to, you can add a little bit of cello tape underneath the hole, to strengthen it.
Lastly, thread you string through the hole, tie a knot, and then we decided to make a loop at the other end to put your wrist through.

Now go fly your bird kites!

How lovely! I spent many happy hours making and playing with similar paper crafts when I was a child.
