Finding a decent family friendly restaurant that ticks all boxes is pretty tricky. We were recommended Hickory’s Smokehouse Gresty Green, in Crewe. We went to check it out for Freckled Face number 4s birthday and here’s what we thought.
Setting/Building
It was a good mix modern and classic western American decor. The staff were all in check/plaid shirts which helped to set the atmosphere too. It’s a large building with plenty of tables and we found it to be clean and well set out. Outside there is a play area for kids and inside there is a cinema room that has two rows of proper cinema seats and a big screen. The kids loved it! It made waiting for the food easier! – not that you had to wait long, it was a reasonable time.
There was also a lovely area to sit and eat outside. The tables had blankets and hot water bottles on them! I thought that was such a cute idea!
Service
To be completely honest, we really weren’t that impressed at first. I had phoned before hand to make a reservation for 6 – stated that it was 2 adults and 4 kids and that it was for our daughters 3rd birthday. When we arrived we were put on a table in the middle of the walk way that only had 5 seats around it. They had put balloons on it with a cool table weight saying happy birthday. We asked if there was another table that we could have to which the person who greeted us and showed us to the table said no, and then got another chair, took all bar one set of cutlery and brought back plastic cutlery and colouring packs for the kids….so we were a cutlery set short. There were plenty of bigger tables that were not being used. About 15 minutes in we had a waitress change and she was lovely! Very polite and helpful. She also made it known to us that we should have got free popcorn for the kids on arrival, and told us that there was a play area and cinema room. My husband asked someone else if we could move table and they and 3 other members of staff couldn’t be more helpful as they helped us move to a more suitable table. For the rest of the night the staff were great! Friendly, helpful and professional.
Food
Y U M!! No complaints from anyone at our table! There was a good variety on the kids menu and adults menu. All 3 girls went for a ‘hot dog’ and the little man had ‘make your own wraps’.
Good size portions, well presented, cooked well and reasonably priced – which can also be said for our meals too!
The younger 2 were too full for desserts but the rest of us couldn’t resist! Lmhowever when the desserts came along the younger 2 changed their minds! Luckily I got the M&M cookie sandwich (which was big!), so they shared that with me. The waitress put a sparkler/flare in the dessert and the birthday was so happy about it!
Overall
Putting the first 15 minutes aside – we can’t fault it!
