10 Fun Activities To Do Around A Fire Pit

10 fun activities to do around a fire pit. 4 Freckled Faces. Family fun.

We LOVE a Fire Pit! It’s one of our favourite things to do. There is something about sitting outdoors, around a fire in the evening and spending time together……it kinda helps me to reset. The only bad thing about is coming in and smelling of smoke! I will put up with it though, as the good points FAR outweigh the bad! One thing I have realised is though – is that I need to take more photos when we’re around the fire pit! (I’ll try to remember to update pictures on here when I get some!)

Here are some family fun activities you can do around a fire pit.

1. Make Stuffed Baked Bananas

Grab yourself a sharp knife, kitchen foil, bananas, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, and anything else you think might going well! We’ve done toffee pieces and little brownie chunks a couple if times took. You make a long slit in the banana (top to bottom- NOT across!) Then slot whatever fillings you have selected inside the banana. Wrap it in kitchen foil and put on the edge of the fire. Ours usually take 5 – 10 minutes – depending on the heat of the fire.

Oh we tend to take teaspoons and (sometimes) plates out to eat them with too!

2. Play Card Games

Who doesn’t love a card game? Go Fish, Rummy, Uno….whatever your family preference is!

3. Star Gazing

If it’s dark enough, looking up at the stars and spotting constellations is lots of fun! We like to get the telescope out as well sometimes and take a closer look.

4. Make S’mores

Grab yourself some marshmallows, sticks and chocolate digestive biscuits. Put a marshmallow on the end of the stick, toast it in the fire and when it’s done get two chocolate digestive biscuits either side of the marshmallow (like and sandwich), and pull it off the stick. Enjoy!

5. Tell Stories

Kids love making up stories! You can either take it in turns to make up a short stories, or you can take it in turns to say one line at a time and make up a story together.

6. Watch a Film

If you have a projector you can use a sheet or the side of your house to project the film.

If you don’t have a projector you could try watching a film on a laptop.

7. Listen to Music

If you’re all feeling pretty chilled, you could just sit and listen to some music, enjoy a nice hot chocolate and relax.

8. Sing Songs

Got any family favourites? Can anyone play an instrument? Or are you karaoke fans??

9. Toasted Wrap

These are similar to the stuffed baked bananas. You’ll need wraps and fillings for them. You can either have savoury filled wraps (meats, cheese, onions, beans, cooked rice, etc) or sweet filled wraps (chocolate, strawberries, marshmallows, etc). Make the wrap up and put it in the fire until cooked. (Cooking times will vary, depending on what fillings you decided to have.)

10. Reminisce

‘Remember when we….’  memories are always good for a laugh. Talk about holidays, day trips, family reunions, etc.

What do you think? Would you add anything to this list?
